6th Free-Them Freedom Walk - September 22, 2018

On September 22nd, we will be joining many others for the 6th Free-Them Freedom Walk - a 5 KM freedom walk to raise funds and awareness to end exploitation in Canada. Did you know that there are more than 30 million people in global slavery today? While we would like to believe it isn't happening here, the two most prevalent forms of human trafficking in Canada are forced labor and forced prostitution. The sad reality is that it IS happening and smaller communities like mine are not immune to this ever-growing issue either. Why will we walk? Well, this walk is very personal to this Project. And the fact is that statistics show that 87% of victims rescued in Canada are Canadian with the average age of entry into forced prostitution - sex slavery, being just 13 years old. Victims of this horrible injustice come from all over our country, in bigger cities and in smaller communities like mine. We need to fight for these kids and anyone who needs support to get out of a life of exploitation! We know that together we can make a difference, and the more funds we can raise, the greater the impact we can have to help survivors of human trafficking. All funds raised this year will go toward a new Supported Housing for Victims of Sex Trafficking being opened by Covenant House Toronto in the Fall 2018.
